Each industry is different but most businesses will do well to have a Facebook Business page, it is often the place I tell my customers to start their Social Media Marketing Efforts.   It’s where you can access the 1.5 billion users Facebook has worldwide.  It is where you to be discovered by new customers, stay connected with current customers and pretty much spy on their wants and needs. Many small business owners are overwhelmed by “how” to market their business on Facebook.  There are actually three different responsibilities you have after  your Facebook Business page is up and running:

Get more likes, engage your followers ,and get those followers into your sales funnel.

Get More Likes

You should always be adding more followers by inviting people to “Like” your page because if you don’t have any followers, no one will see the great content your are posting! You can do this passively by listing a link to your business page from your personal page, posting your personalized Facebook Business Page link onto your email signature, stationary and by posting a Facebook Like Box onto your website and blog.

Engage Your Followers

Every follower you have has an average of 250 friends and whenever they like your posts, comment, or share, all their friends have the opportunity to see your page.   That is how your content can be re-shared and you can organically gain more likes. The more people that interact with your posts, the more likely Facebook will display your content to your followers.  (This is the anomaly of the new Facebook algorithm). So how do you engage your followers?  Use content that is exciting and entices people to respond.

  • Use photos- photos are one of the most commonly shared content
  • Ask people an easy to answer question,  that is irresistible to answer like “Pepsi or Coke”- Open ended questions don’t do as well because people don’t have time to write a book on your page.
  • Use controversial headlines- post a news article with a controversial headline and ask your followers if they agree or disagree. Be careful not to make a statement either way yourself (unless that is your thing)
  • Don’t assume people will like, comment or share your content..ask them!

You can find highly engaging content by looking at other business pages! If it got lots of likes and shares on someone else’s page, then it will probably get lots of likes on your page.  When you share content directly from a page, you are helping the other page as well. So it is a win/win.

Get them into your sales funnel

Don’t stop at getting likes! This is the most forgotten thing by small business owners. You don’t want to count on Facebook selling anything for you, get them onto your email list or sms service(text messaging service). Sprinkle special offers that your followers can claim by entering their email or phone number.  Make sure these offers are balanced in your status updates. I recommend it is 1 out of 7 posts.
